Nature has supplied us with a plethora of amazing fruits and vegetables that provide a wide range of disease fighting and health promoting properties. Safely tucked away within the fibres of these fruits and vegetables are an astonishing range of nutrients that are vital for our day-to-day health and wellness. The vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, macronutrients, micronutrients, antioxidants, polyphenols, enzymes and amino acids contained within fruits and vegetables all support the bodies wide range of natural functions, the immune system and disease fighting mechanisms.
At Juice Master, we strongly believe in a holistic way of treating long-term disease and that the food we eat, or more importantly the nutrients contained within the food we eat, should genuinely feed the body and create an abundant ‘bank account’ of health. On this page you will find a detailed list of vitamins and minerals and a little information about each one; as well as sections on why we need a particular nutrient; how we may feel if we are deficient; where we can find it; as well as a few things we need to be aware of.
Where possible, we have also added information on any relevant studies that may have been done on that particular vitamin or mineral. However, please keep in mind that we also strongly believe that this information is limited, although studies are being done constantly there is so much more to be uncovered.
Sometimes the more you know, the more complicated things become and when you start to research nutrients it is not quite as simple as we would all like it to be! You will see when you look through the pages there is probably a lot of information that most people don’t really need to know. We all know that we need calcium for our teeth and bones, iron for the blood, and vitamin C to protect us from colds but it goes so much deeper – Do we really need to know that in order for a particular nutrient to work as we expect it to, it may need other specific nutrients and circumstances to make it happen? For instance, some medications can interact negatively with some nutrients and some foods can reduce absorption of a particular nutrient.
Basically nutrition is a minefield and the more you read, the less you can be sure of! Please don’t lose any sleep over trying to unravel it all, all you really need to know is that all the literature/articles conclude that if your main source of nutrition is plant based, i.e. consuming fresh fruits and vegetables, or even better (as more bio-available), drinking juices made form a wide range of coloured fruits and vegetables, we will have the best chance of giving our bodies the nutrients it requires to keep us healthy.
